小年 is a 传统节日 (traditional Chinese festival) that is celebrated a mere 6 or 7 days before the spectacular that is 春节 Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). If we go by the Chinese lunar calendar the date would be around December the 23rd/24th (农历腊月二十三和二十四). This little festival is also called "过小年".
